The Legendary DJ Belal

Hear The Legendary DJ Belal on 108 Soul every Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m. during afternoon drive and every Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. for It Ain’t Nothing Like Hip Hop Music Show. All times Eastern.

DJ Belal hails from Wyandanch, New York (11798), on Strong Island. Early in his career, he DJed for Rakim, Biz Markie, Craig Mack, Chubb Rock, and actor Daryl “Chill” Mitchell. Martin Lawrence portrayed him in the Hudlin brothers’ cult classic House Party. Belal is also one-third of Groove B. Chill, one of the first hip-hop groups signed to Andre Harrell’s Uptown Records.

Over nearly four decades, DJ Belal has moved crowds nationwide at clubs, weddings, corporate events, and celebrity parties with his signature “House Party Style.” Trained by the late Biz Markie, Belal reads the room and draws on his open-format style to play the right record at the right moment. As he likes to say, “We gonna have some hurt feet tonight.”
